What to do in case of fraud?

Getting scammed with cryptos can happen to anyone

Previously I told you about all the risks that exist when you start your crypto journey. But I also think it would be useful to tell you what you can do if you are scammed! It is sometimes said that there are two types of people. The people who have already had to deal with a loss in crypto due to stupidity or fraud. The other people are the people where this still needs to happen. Unfortunately, this means that it will happen to you too one day. Now we will of course do our best to prevent this, but if it does happen to you, here are a number of tips that can help you.

The most important thing to realize is: you are not the only one this has happened to, so don't be ashamed! What is extremely important is that you shouldn't keep walking around with it because you don't dare to tell it! It has happened to me a number of times and each time I have been more honest about it, both to myself and to others. This allowed me to let it go much faster.

But if it happens to you, there are of course several options. What I only realized the last time is that you can of course report it to the police. They are very happy with every report they receive and take this very seriously! When you report it to the police, they will (from my own experience) send you a list of questions about what exactly happened. These questions are very specific so it can be quite a job to answer them. It gave me a lot of confidence that the police ask such detailed questions! Take your time for this! You are also entitled to victim assistance when you report the crime. So the police may be able to arrange someone for you to talk about what happened to you.

If you are being scammed by, for example, Phishing or because you have made another form of incorrect transaction, it does not hurt to look up your transaction. Every blockchain has a "Blockchain Explorer". The blockchain is the place where everything is stored. This also applies to your transaction. If you want to search for your transaction, you can do the following:

-Check on which blockchain you made the transaction.

-Go to the Blockchain Explorer of this Blockchain.

-Enter your transaction ID/Enter your wallet address.

-Then check in the transaction to which address your tokens have been sent.

-When you see to which address your tokens have been sent, you can look in the wallet of the person who received your tokens.

-If you are a little further along in your knowledge and you already know more about the Blockchain explorers, you could see if you can continue to follow where your tokens have gone.

Now you have found almost all the information you can access yourself. Write this all down carefully! If you have the transaction codes, the wallet addresses and the URL codes of the site on which the scam took place, you can send a nice explanation with your report. Here's a short list of information to look up and keep:

-De Transaction Hash.

-The wallet addresses (Both yours and the one your cryptos have been sent to).

-Any additional addresses where you have seen your cryptos going (If you are handy enough with the blockchain explorer).

-The platform on which this happened.

-A clear description of how this happened to you.

-The number of cryptos that have been taken from you.

-The total value of the cryptos that were taken from you at the time it happened.

If this happens to you, it is all overwhelming enough. Use this as your guide so that you have gathered AND STORED as much information as possible. If you have additional information that you think is useful, it is always wise to add it to this list.

In addition to the police, you can often also contact the platform you are trading on. For example, you may have sent your cryptos to the wrong address. Unfortunately, it is not always possible, but there is a chance that the address belongs to the platform itself. There is a good chance that you will still get your cryptos back!

You are not the only victim of crypto fraud!

Then if it has happened to you, it is of course very nice if there are others with whom you can share this. The goal is to build a community in which we can help each other. Not only when finding new possibilities, but also when things go wrong. Has something happened to you? Don't just help yourself by talking about it, but also let others know so you can help them prevent this! I am currently busy creating a discord community. When this is finished I will post a link here where you can register. Let's help each other and outsmart the criminals together! Because together we are stronger than alone!
